Love, Life, Spirituality, and the Art of Being Human

It is a well known truth that life is a very fragile thing and is affected (for good or ill) very easily by what may seem like the smallest of influences. It is also true though, that we can survive what would be considered almost insurmountable odds, but the cost is usually far greater than we realize.

With this in mind it would seem prudent to strongly consider the choices you make for everything you read, watch, listen to, or even think about with greater care. You should read this site and think about what is written here, as with everything else you do, as if your life depends on it, because it does. This statement is not made lightly as there are so many things which either directly or indirectly affect your life, the quality of your life, the length of your life, and so on. Everything we read, see, hear, or experience affects our lives either for good or ill, and life is far too precious a gift to just throw away foolishly because you were influenced by things that took you in the wrong direction.

So this site is about, and will deal with many things, but most of all it is about humanity. It is about searching for the real humanity that we can be, by learning from our mistakes, and not continuing to be the self destructive creatures we have, it seems, always been. It does not matter which country you are from, which religion you profess to believe in, or even if you don't believe in a religion at all. It doesn't matter what your ethnic background happens to be. It does not matter if you are male or female, rich, poor, or somewhere in the middle, for all the aforementioned things are superficial and of no real consequence. What does matter however is who and what you truly are inside.

Everything in the world affects everything else, in sort of an ever changing tapestry which forms a picture of who we are as a people. It is colored by our different cultures, beliefs, religions, dreams, and the beauty and horrors we have created within each. This tapestry, if it could be viewed, would look unfinished; it would have loose threads hanging all around its edges, a long uneven fringe so to speak. This fringe of society is where beliefs are formed and end. When a new belief is accepted into society it moves into the body of the tapestry. When a belief loses popularity, credibility or just does not fit with what the majority of society wants to do, it is moved to the edges, and may even be relegated to the fringe once again. If a belief returns to the fringe it may linger for years, some may even be taken back somewhere into the body of the tapestry, while others simply just drop off.

The difficulty of communicating ideas, thoughts and feelings through language.

To begin this section on the difficulty of communication, let us suppose as an example that you had a huge revelation, and now you understand the secrets of the universe. This revelation is so great that you need to tell as many people as you can what has been revealed to you. The problem is that if others you try to tell don't have any knowledge or experience on which to base the information you're trying to give them, or the proper perspective that would allow them to see and understand what your trying to give them, it will be as if you are speaking in a language completely unknown to them and they will not understand. So with this in mind, you try to express what you need to say in the simplest terms you can. You use the simplest most easily understood expressions, the most universally understood terms to get these truths acrossed. This is why it has been said that a wise person uses words that everyone can understand, not vulgar, not harsh, just plain words to try and get their points acrossed. Sometimes though, no matter how plainly something is stated, someone, or perhaps everyone will not fully comprehend what is being said. The reason for this depends, as stated above, on whether or not what is being spoken about is within the realm of experience, or goes in harmony with the viewpoint of the listener or listeners. Even people that speak the same language and have the same cultural background see the world differently because of their unique personal experiences. For instance, certain words may mean one thing to one person, and something completely different to someone else, depending on their life experiences and the ideas they associate to those words. Always remember, no matter what you see, read, or hear, you can only have your idea of what you saw or what the author or speaker was trying to convey, not necessarily what in reality happened or what the author or speaker intended.

This is where we find that language falls short in its ability to convey some of our thoughts, feelings, and ideas to others, because somehow it seems to lose something when being expressed in mere words. There are some truths though that can be expressed and have been expressed, which can be perceived by anyone who is open to them. These are what are known as universal truths. A universal truth is one that is true for all people, no matter who you are or where you're from, such as the truth that we all need air to breathe. So before we go any further, there are a few things that need to be said.

First, there is nothing really new under the sun. All of the universal truths that needed to be said, have been said, there are just different ways of looking at them. It is the disagreements over which is the "right way" of looking at them that this site is, in part, about. The "right way" could be any one of the several views represented throughout our world, or none of them at all. This site is just a way to show what things look like through the eyes of someone else. Many different things will be looked at here, questioned, and may challenge your viewpoint. Please be fair and open minded, giving careful consideration, thinking about all of what you read here. For this site is about viewpoints or belief systems - what they are, why we have them, and what they have done to the world we live in.

One more point. The viewpoint which is expressed on this site may be far different than what you have heard before. It comes from the same universal truths expressed throughout human history, just a little different in its expression.

Please keep an open mind and don't let your mind become clouded with anger, no matter what your reasons may be, you would miss so much. Besides, anger doesn't do anything but ruin your day. It creates physiological changes in the body systems, producing a toxic environment. Therefore anger does actual physical harm. Anger also takes away our ability to think clearly and rationally, and in this world, at this time, rational thinking is one of the things we need most.

One other small point, this site has NO political or religious affiliations, although some quotes from some writings may be used.
